Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to questions people often ask.
I See Mount Pleasant’s Name Is The Mount Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church. What Does The “A.M.E. Zion” Mean In The Name?
The A.M.E. Zion or African Methodist Episcopal Zion is the name of our denomination, founded in 1796 in New York City, by James Varick, Peter Williams, Thomas Miller, June Scott, and others. The A.M.E. Zion Denomination is the second oldest Black Methodist denomination in the United States, behind the A.M.E Church, which was founded in Philadelphia 1787.
So If You’re A Methodist, Then What Do Methodists Believe?
Methodists are Christians who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, the authority of Scripture, the grace of God, and the call to live a holy life characterized by love, justice, mercy, and service to others. Methodism was founded in the 1700’s by John Wesley.
Do You Baptize Infants & Children?
Yes. We At Mount Pleasant and all A.M.E. Zion Churches baptize children, including infants because of God’s Prevenient Grace. In other words, even though an infant or a child may not understand the significance of the meaning of Baptism, God’s love and grace are not limited by a child’s ability to understand them.
Jesus says in Mark 10:14: “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.”
Do You Have Bible Study and if so When?
Yes. We have our Christian Development bible study classes on Wednesday Nights on Zoom. Please message us for the Zoom credentials.
What Is The Dress Code To Come To Mount Pleasant?
We invite you to come to worship just as you are led. Whether that means a traditional suit and tie, a dress and hat, jeans and a hoodie, or anything in between, there is no dress code for experiencing the presence of God. Come as you are, wear what makes you comfortable, and know that you are welcome just as you are!
